When trying to move forward with your life, it can be enormously beneficial to plan the direction you want to take and put together some action steps that will assist you along the way. Making any sort of change is never easy and having someone beside you to talk to and support you can radically improve your chance of success.

Just thinking your way out of a problem does not always work and certainly not in the long term. It is particularly helpful to start by looking at the attitudes, beliefs and opinions that inform the way we behave.

As human beings we tend to be creatures of habit and have a tendency to follow our own patterns of behaviour. We have followed many of these patterns or habits for much of our lives, so they have become well entrenched in our minds. To break some of the more negative patterns and make the necessary changes is hardly ever straight forward and that is where a coach can really help.

By becoming aware of these patterns, life coaching can assist you to identify the positive ones and any that might be holding you back. You will then be able to put together some steps to address these limiting beliefs and bring about long lasting and positive change.

Through my years of working as a coach and trainer I have come to believe that for coaching to be successful and effective, it needs to be based on the following values:

The coach - client relationship to be built on trust and mutual respect

A willingness from the client to be open and honest

A desire from the client to face challenges and move forward

The client to take responsibility for their actions and emotions

The client's readiness to acknowledge the past and present while focusing on the future
